Some of the following are awfully cheap, others pricey, and some just ask for a contribution. You don’t need to believe in their ideology to remain at these places. I stayed at a Zen center in upstate Long Island some years back. For under $20, I had a straightforward bed in a plain room. 2 meals daily were included, and there had been a good library and a jacuzzi. If you would like a calm holiday, these are the places to look for.

They are often quiet, and in handsome settings. Whether a priory full of catholic friars, or a Hindu meditation center, many of them now have sites for you.

There are always folks searching for others to remain in their homes, water the plants, and keep an eye on things. Can get a place on a lake for a month, and sometimes you can even receive payment for your services. Locations include each part of the U. S. and most of Europe. If you have any experience with house sitting or care taking it can help. It really is a cheaper alternative than most holidays.

An out of doors holiday does not actually mean backpacking or hunting. Pals of mine lately took part in a week-long cycle tour in West Virginia, for instance. These tours take place in many areas, or can be done anywhere if you would like to. They can include camping, or a stay at a pleasant hotel each night.

Another out of doors holiday that may be done nicely is hiking hut-to-hut in the mountains. Though there are some places in the U. S. Where this could be done, it is way more common in Europe. You hike some hours from one shed to the next, thru gorgeous mountains. Food, wine, beds and bedding are going to be available at each shed.

Cheap travel means you get to go more often, go on longer trips or just save some of your money for other things. Fortunately, it doesn’t mean low-quality travel. If you find a way to get a cheaper plane ticket, for example, you might be flying on the same plane as with the more expensive tickets. Of course sometimes you can save money by traveling differently, and that’s okay too. Why pay an extra $40 for a hotel if you like the idea of staying in a hostel with visitors from around the world? Why rent a car in countries where good bus and train systems make for cheaper and more interesting trips? Essentially you can travel cheap in two ways.

First, you can find cheaper ways to get the same thing. The other, perhaps more powerful way, is to alter your expectations and plans to create a more interesting trip that is also inexpensive. The tips that follow will help you do both.

1. See if you can book two flights cheaper than one My wife and I are thinking about going to Ecuador this year (2007). Checking for our approximate dates, I found that it would cost $950 each round trip from Colorado Springs, or $1,900 total. Then I checked from Colorado Springs to Miami. It would be $215 round trip. From Miami to Guayaquil, Ecuador costs $350 round trip. That makes it just $565 to Ecuador, or $1,130 total - a savings of $770. Of course, if you are going to do this, you have to find flights that have enough time in-between them. You probably won’t get e refund if you miss the second flight because of a delay on the first. In our case, we have friends near Miami, so we’ll just arrange the flights to be a day or two apart, and go visiting. Even after the cost of renting a car for a couple days we’ll still be hundreds of dollars ahead.

2. Live in a new place for a while One way to make a vacation less rushed, cheaper, and in many ways more interesting, is to stop going from hotel to hotel. Why not stay in a place, and even rent a condo or apartment? We did this a few years back in Tucson, Arizona. It was nice to escape winter for a couple months, and it was fun to explore and get to know a new city. Often you can save hundreds of dollars this way, versus paying by the night for hotel rooms.

3. Be an opportunistic traveler This is the most valuable of these cheap travel tips. There are so many things to do out there and so many places to see, so why get stuck on just the ones you have already thought of? With a little luck, you might find a more interesting place to go for half the price. With little shopping, you might find a bed and breakfast in whatever country you visit, and pay less for a more interesting experience.

First look for all the possible alternatives that are less expensive. This isn’t about doing something you don’t want to do. But among those cheaper choices there might be a perfect trip for you. Why not find out? To start with, do any of your friends live in interesting places? Visiting friends is a great way to save on travel costs and have a load of fun (with the right friends). Here’s a good example of being an opportunist. We were in the mountain resort town of Banos, Ecuador, and asked about the cost of taxi ride to some waterfall. It was $15. It was apparently a popular attraction with tourists. We kept that in mind as we wandered around. Then we saw a chiva (an open-sided bus with seating on the roof) go by playing music. We asked about that.

The chiva took us on a tour of the city (I rode on the roof), then up into the mountains for a view of the city from above. Then we watched the volcano Tungurahua erupt and spit out a bit of lava. They served us hot rum drinks (included in the price), and there were fire-juggling entertainers. Passengers had to push the chiva to get it started for the trip back to town. When it comes to gondola rides in Venice, your choices are limitless. A ride can be something romantic shared by two, or it can be a fun filled excursion for groups of friends and family. Taking a gondola ride during the morning, afternoon or evening are all possibilities as well as whether the ride is short or long. Locations off the main stream and rides along the Grand Canal are also good choices, proving endless options abound. Several locations offer a place to catch gondola rides, but the easiest and most popular way to catch a ride is to have your hotel make the arrangements. Many times transportation to and from the port can be implemented, and even bargains or inclusions in your vacation package are offered.

If finding places to board yourself, the main tourist areas are the best places to look. Although Venice offers a few ports, it can be hard to find them as the city is one big tourist attraction. Simply boarding at famous attractions such as the Piazzale Roma and the Doge’s Palace in Piazza San Marco are good options. In less populated areas near the secondary canals, you will find gondola rides offered by men at many of the pedestrian crossings. Although most are out to drum up business, others may not be so kind. Because of this, it’s wise to use caution before handing over money. On the other hand, less crowded areas may offer slightly less expensive rides saving you money in the long run. The Grand Canal’s 2 mile stretch covers some of Venice’s spectacular sights such as the Campanile, the Basilica di San Marco and others. Prices here tend to be a bit higher than those a little more out of the way, so this is something to keep in mind before seeking a ride. The gondola fares are official rates set by the city of about $120 for 40 minutes and $220 for an hour’s ride. However vendors tend to ignore these rates therefore prices could be commonly higher and rarely lower than these averages. It is normal and expected to bargain for gondola ride rates; however it’s important to remember the basic principle of supply and demand. Because there are more tourists than there are available gondolas, the demand is high.

Sharing a gondola with up to 6 other people is a good way to save money. The cost being too high for you while on vacation doesn’t mean fun can’t be had. Instead of trying to hassle a vendor for lower prices, consider engaging in the multiple different things to do in Venice that will work with your budget. For those that do choose to ride a gondola, the experience is quite fun, whether with friends family or a loved one. A mixed romantic aspect is experienced due to thousands of people crowding the streets of the Grand Canal and watching you, being able to focus on the scenery and each other instead of the people takes some talent.

Certainly with this one it is important that you book well in advance because it is one of the most popular of them all simply because of the variety of services and facilities it has to offer.

Sands has several restaurants where various different menus are available and also a great beach for the guests to enjoy. Yet there are plenty of activities for people of all ages who are staying at the hotel can enjoy as well from the water park to the health club and for the children there is even a kids club. The final one of the oceanfront hotels Myrtle Beach which we are looking at is the Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort. Just like the others it has numerous amenities (swimming pools, restaurants, golf courses) to keep the guests occupied and has more than 530 well appointed rooms as well. This resort was refurbished back in 2006 and is able to provide accommodation to suit any size of vacation budget.
